What are the American Mathematics Competitions?
The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) is an annual mathematics competition that is open to students in middle and high schools across the United States. The competition is designed to challenge and inspire students to engage with mathematics and develop their problem-solving skills.
The AMC is divided into two exams: the AMC 10 and AMC 12, with AMC 10 being open to students in 10th grade or below, and AMC 12 being open to students in 12th grade or below. The exams include multiple-choice questions that test knowledge of algebra, geometry, number theory, combinatorics, probability, and other mathematical concepts.
Students who perform well in the AMC can qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME), which is a more challenging exam designed to select students for the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) program.
